I am a Leona Lewis fan, an incredible singer of stunning quality.
Tonight I had a look at one of her fan sites, there was a post there about a relatively new music download Site (all genres)
http://www.we7.com, there was lots of attention from the fanbase as she got paid for each download or streaming. The Site initially was downloading to UK addys only, however Global addys were being worked on, dont know the latest, worth checking that out if you are non-UK.
Its concept is to pay artists for online streaming of the song, or for download to mp3 - vast majority free to end user (us). Royalties to source publishers and artisits are by agreed payments. The funds for that come from advertising - But the advertising is not intrusive, very acceptable levels by UK standards, let alone US standards. They are still developing and extending it, but its well worth checking out and adding to browser favorites lists. I am impressed, and I am a cynic of so called "free" sites, but they really have this nailed. I also checked out carefully for nastys downloaded as pretend cookies etc, none, its a legit site no hidden nasties lurking.
All in All, could not ask for better - model of things to come methinks. Extract below is an oultine of where they are at, as a cut & paste from the Site:
"For the moment, some music tracks will not have all of the options
available to you; some tracks will only be available to listen now,
some will only be available for paid download, some will be limited
depending on what country you live in, and others will be free to
listen now and free to download to listen later. So please be patient
with us. We are trying to change the world but it takes a little time!"
May well be others around I have not heard of, but I am seriously impressed with these guys, they have it nailed ...
