I put this in the Politics section, as in a way its a story of what happens when domestic politics, grandstanding, bigotry, grace & favour etc, get out of control and we loose sight of reality in the race to become "Mr Big". A couple of hours ago I finished watching a DVD called “Murder in the First”, first released to cinemas in 1994. Its an adaptation of a true story set in Alcatraz of Henri Young, a 1930’s convict. Henri is (in the film) someone who was convicted of stealing $5, attemp...

It had all been met by chuckles over breakfast back in that Sunday Morning in August of 2007 when Mr Claramunt of Galactic Suite announced the start of a $6Bn project to place in orbit a new Hotel, for which guests would pay a mere $4m for each stay of a few days. "I'm hopeful that the impact of seeing the earth from a distance will stimulate the guests urge to value and protect our planet" he had announced at the launch. Great Man, Great Man I thought, Visionary, the icon of vacume environ...

Probably, but note the element of doubt. I use the term "Press" or "Free Press" to encompass all forms of media and information services now present in the modern age - not just the classic newspaper. The Press came from a Noble background of high principle and fighting good causes, every Democratic Country has its stories of journalistic daring do fighting evil and corruption, even to the extent that it can be fairly argued that Democracy as we know it would not exist without a Free Press, ...

Read this for what it is, about an atheist who believes in reality and common sense. Its a bit long, and for that I apologise, but real world examples are often complex, far more so than convenient fables. This is not a Rant, it’s a real world situation I faced, and I thought long before posting, I don’t want any discussion - should there be any - to be heated or Rants, not my nature nor my intent to cause that. This will not be a new problem to many who study theology or religion, but it...

Ok time to relax from the serious topics of the moment and fights for Intellectual Blog of the year yaddie yadda. Regress a little and have a bit of fun. Many will have seen this, but for those who havent nip over and have a look. Its in a Philipino maximum security prison, where at the end of last year they did a video of part of their rehabilitation programme. Bare in mind these are their worst of the worst, murders etc etc, doing routines to Michael Jackson etc. The girls at the ...

"Life is risky and can be detrimental to your health" That should cover it. Am I the only one getting a little too punch drunk with "Drama shock horror revelation - (insert latest bid for 15 mins of fame to suit)" ? Yet another "health warning" in this mornings Daily Telegraph in the UK. Apparently Office Printers are the latest evil to beset mankind in its pursuit of the ultimate dream and happiness (17 out of 62 laser printer models apparently will cause severe illnesses "such ...

Is there any Institution or Appointed Official left that we can trust ? Its 1:50 am local time, and I was idly browsing aimlessly as I had my usual good night drink before hitting the sack. My mind wondered around even more aimlessly than usual reading all the doom and gloom and sky is falling headlines by the world’s alleged News organisations, and the increasing number of similar posts and blogs by the usual copious attention seekers. Ban “Tour De Farce” cry’s the world as the premie...

I am now convinced the Big Banks have taken leave of their senses (I live in UK) regarding the relationship they have (or had, more of that later) with you and I, joe soap, the ordinary person going about his or her life before the grim reaper moves us on. At the end of the day, they are a business not a charity, and are there to satisfy their shareholders - what a surprise, but fair enough - and I for one wholly understand that, and support the dynamics and drivers associated with that. Y...

Ok lets see your creative side, and write a new script for the Enterprise, depicting whatever you wish. Rules (hey there has to be some) 1. Its a bit of fun, stay out of the boring side of Politics, Religion and Women. Keep it light hearted, and please no pretence and false subtlety in attempts to break the rule. Such attempts are usually so obvious a Phaser Beam through the upper deck observation post is less clear in comparison, whatever the originator may think. Light hearted Political...

It is time the Catholic Church finally dealt with this disgraceful conduct once and for all within its ranks, and stop issuing pious statements of forgiveness and other ridiculous spin driven claptrap. The recent disclosure of an out of court settlement in a class action against the LA Diocese, brings to a head an ongoing saga of depravity and inhumane treatment by the very people the church empowers to spread its message of enlightenment and compassion, on a scale that beggars belief - not ...
